Popular Science

During my run as features editor, I helped this iconic title win its first National Magazine Award. I got paid to talk to smart people. It was a dream job for a science journalist, and I remain a big fan of this legendary brand.

Discover Magazine

This was the first magazine I ever subscribed to as a kid. So when I became executive editor in 2010, it felt like I had married my childhood hero. The reality was less exciting but I loved collaborating with some of the best science writers out there and producing influential stories that needed to be told.

Special Reports

Really special. My team produces a wide variety of specialty publications, everything from institutional annual reports to sub-specialty reviews. Our basic philosophy: ‘Report’ isn’t a synonym for boring.

A Podcast about Freedom

For fun, I host a podcast called Never Nine to Five about how successful Solo-ists thrive outside the corporate mega-verse. Guests include writers, musicians, pizza makers, YouTubers, farmers, and other fiercely creative and independent pros.

The Operator’s Manual

You own an operator’s manual for your car. Why not for your body? This series of publications was inspired by the classic owner’s manual found in every glove compartment. Know your body—and know how to fix it.

More News …

Everyone obsesses over digital but if you want people to really read your message, not just scroll past it, then premium print is still your best bet. The Fall 2022 edition of NYU Langone Health News arrived in the mailboxes of 55,000 readers, competing only with the occasional bill and some outdated junk mail.

Makes me wonder if I should mail you this website.

… And Still More

Some humans are simply amazing. Maz Zisan, featured on the cover of the Spring 2022 edition of NYU Langone Health News, is one of them. Imagine you’re 18, crushing it in the gym, prepping for college, doing it all, when you suddenly learn that you’ll die in months without a heart transplant. Most of us would be … rattled. But not Maz. He got down to business and found the right team to save his life. Now he’s back to the good stuff with a lot more to come.
